Minneapolis Quagmire - Murder

I previously posted on a shooting to the head of an unnamed victim May 20, 2006. That victim has died, and it is now a case of murder.

The Minneapolis Police SAFE Unit has issued a 5/23/06 Crime Alert following a murder of 5/20/06:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CIRCUMSTANCES OR INCIDENT:

Minneapolis Police Officers responded to a “shots fired” call in the area of East 26th Street and Cedar Avenue South, Saturday May 20th at about 8:20 p.m. Officers were unable to locate a victim at that time. Within moments, Hennepin County Medical Facility contacted police stating that a gunshot victim had arrived by private vehicle. Information led officers back to the area of East 26th Street and Cedar Avenue South where a crime scene was discovered.

Initial information indicated that the adult male victim was seated inside a parked vehicle when he was shot. The victim was then driven to HCMC for treatment. The victim has since died.

There is no other information available at this time. Anyone with any additional information is asked to call the Minneapolis Police Department’s Tips Line @ 612-692-8477.
Probably gang-on-gang, but so what? Your loved one could have been caught in the crossfire at 8:20 p.m.

What is going on in Minneapolis? Where are the leaders?

Mayor Rybak - have you not yet stepped down? You have failed your mission of assuring the safety of your people. The reutation of your once-fine city is at stake.

The always resourceful The Watcher has some valuable, but disturbing, insight into the matter:

Might be gang-related. There are some former Little Earth residents scheduled to be released from prison this spring/summer, according to the Mpls CODEFOR meeting early this month.

There is concern that gang-related violence will increase.
