Question: What does one have to do to stay safe in Minneapolis? Answer: Stay out of Minneapolis.
A member of the camera crew filming Thursday night’s Twins game was robbed at knifepoint while leaving the Metrodome.Violent criminals are getting exceptionally bold in Minneapolis, as this police quote would attest:
The man, who does not want to be identified, says he was robbed about two hours after the game in a parking lot a few blocks from the dome.
“As I turned around, I had a knife two feet from my face, and somebody said, ‘Give me your wallet,’” the man said. “I was one step from being stabbed or killed.”
Minneapolis police say attacks against fans are rare, because they often travel in groups. Was this within the heralded Minneapolis "Safe Zone"?
Police add that most of downtown’s crime occurs many blocks away from the Dome, along Hennepin, Nicollet and First Avenues.
Crime statistics for the downtown precinct reported four homicides, 75 rapes, 319 robberies and 293 assaults.
