The Minneapolis Insurgency Continues

The Minneapolis SAFE unit, Precinct 5, Sector 1, has issued a 2/2/06 warning:

"Increased Robberies in Lowry Hill East and East Isles area"

Attention Residents:

There has been an increase in Robberies on the fringes of the entertainment districts, including Lowry Hill East and East Isles. The Fifth precinct has done Robbery Suppression details for the past several weeks due to this increase and is noticing that large groups of people are wondering about the neighborhoods after bar closings. Unfortunately this is making them an easy target, especially if they are intoxicated, to become victims of a robbery. We are asking you to be aware of this and alert neighbors or friends that come to visit while enjoying the wonderful restaurants and clubs that these areas have to offer. The police department is working hard to arrest these individuals doing these crimes, but we need your help too.

What you can do:

·If you are being robbed, give up your valuables. Your life is more important than your possessions.

·Trust your feelings. If you feel uncomfortable in a situation, leave. Go to where there are other people.

·Be aware of your surroundings. Look alert and act confident.

·If possible walk with a friend.

·Carry your money, driver’s license, keys, etc. on your person, not in a purse.

·Walk in a well-light area and/or busy streets.

·Carry a noise-making device, such as a whistle or screech alarm, or just scream to call attention to your situation.

·Call 911 and report any suspicious looking people or criminal activity in you neighborhood.
