Minneapolis crime watch

From the Southwest Journal (Minneapolis), things you won't see in the Red Star. Here are a few crimes that occurred on Mayor Ryback's watch in the last two weeks:

CARAG
Oct. 31, 9:30 a.m.-noon, 800 block of W. 35th St. A 25-year-old woman parked her car legally and left on foot. Victim found it missing when she returned and said there was no broken glass where the vehicle was left.
Between 10 p.m. on Nov. 6 and 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 7, W. 35th St. and Dupont Ave. S. A 28-year-old male had left his vehicle unlocked when an unknown suspect stole it. The victim found his vehicle a few blocks away before he notified police. Allegedly the suspect had taken the vehicle's left door panel, driver's side window and the shifter knob.
Between 6 p.m. on Nov. 4 and 10:15 a.m. on Nov. 5, 3400 block of Emerson Ave. S. A 33-year-old female had parked her car at the rear of her apartment building. She found her vehicle missing the next morning.
East Calhoun
Between 10 p.m. on Oct. 26 and 2 a.m. on Oct. 27, W. 31st St. and Hennepin Ave. S. A 26-year-old female had parked her vehicle and, when she returned,, found it missing. She said she still had the keys on her and the vehicle was parked legally.
East Isles
Oct. 25, 12:35-1:32 a.m., 2300 block of Emerson Ave. S. Several men and women had allegedly assaulted and kidnapped a 28-year-old man. The suspects had beaten the victim until he lost consciousness and then proceeded to move him into a vehicle. The victim was then thrown out of the moving vehicle somewhere near Hidden Beach.
Oct. 27, 1:30-4:30 p.m., 2400 block of Girard Ave. S. Unknown suspect gained entry into an apartment complex through either an already broken windowpane or through the security door, which doesn't need a key. The apartment was forcibly opened and cash and a guitar were taken from the residence.
Oct. 29, 2:30-2:40 a.m., W. 28th St. and Irving Ave. S. Three black males assaulted and robbed a 25-year-old male. The victim could only describe one of the suspects as wearing a blue jersey. The victim claimed he was punched four or five times and then kicked in the face once. Victim was taken to the hospital by his roommate.
Fulton
Oct. 30, 10:30-10:45 a.m., 4300 block of W. Lake Harriet Pkwy. A plain clothes officer allegedly observed a 44-year-old man trying to enter a vehicle. Officers recognized the man as a suspect from an auto theft. Officers approached the suspect and identified themselves. The suspect then tried to flee the scene, but one of the officers tried to get in the way of the vehicle and the suspects still tried to run him over. Officers were eventually able stop the vehicle and arrest both the suspect and a 39-year-old male driver of the vehicle.
Between 6 p.m. on Nov. 4 and 8 a.m. on Nov. 5, 5000 block of Upton Ave. S. A 44-year-old male had parked his car in the rear driveway of his home. The man found his vehicle missing when he returned in the morning.
Nov. 5, 3-9 p.m., 4900 block of Russell Ave. S. Police responded to a report of a burglary. The officers were unable to fingerprint since the victims, a 54-year-old male and 53-year-old female, had already moved objects.
Nov. 5, 4:45-10:30 p.m., 5100 block of Drew Ave. S. Someone burglarized the apartment of a 53-year-old woman. No suspect information was available.
Kenwood
Oct. 31, 5 p.m., 2000 block of Lyndale Ave. S. Police received a call regarding a blue vehicle that allegedly had a gun inside. When police arrived they found two women, one 23-years-old and the other 24-years-old, inside the car. Police searched the vehicle and found narcotics but no weapons. Both women were arrested and taken to Hennepin County Jail.
Nov. 4, 2:30-3:30 a.m., 1800 block of Oliver Ave. S. Police arrested a 49-year-old man while he attempted to burglarize the home of a 78-year-old woman. Suspect was taken to Hennepin County Jail.
Nov. 6, 3:20 a.m., 2000 block of Thomas Ave. S. Police arrested a 22-year-old male on a burglary of dwelling charge. The suspect was taken to Hennepin County Jail.
Kingfield
Nov. 1, 11:33 a.m.-12:11 p.m., 4500 block of Blaisdell Ave. Minneapolis Fire Department was called regarding a suspected arson at the above location. No suspect information was available.
Nov. 2, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., E. 40th St. and Nicollet Ave. S. A 57-year-old woman reported to police that her vehicle had been stolen. The victim believed that an unknown suspect might have gotten a hold of her keys while she was playing tennis.
Linden Hills
Between 9 p.m. on Oct. 29 and 2 a.m. on Oct. 31, 4000 block of Chowen Ave. S. A 56-year-old woman had parked her vehicle in front of her residence. The victim called police after realizing that her vehicle was missing. Police searched the area around her home and found the vehicle parked at 39th Street and Chowen Avenue with damage to the steering column and ignition.
Lowry Hill East (Wedge)
Oct. 25, 2:30 a.m., W. 24th St. and Aldrich Ave. S. A 24-year-old male had legally parked a vehicle he had borrowed from a 33-year-old female. The man had heard glass breaking soon after leaving the vehicle and returned to find it missing and broken glass on the ground where the vehicle was parked.
Oct. 27, 3:38-3:58 p.m., 2700 block of Emerson Ave. S. An unknown suspect attempted to burglarize a residence. The police were able to recover some evidence that could be used to find fingerprints.
Between 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 and 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 31, 2300 block of Dupont Ave. S. A 50-year-old male allowed his 37-year-old daughter to use his vehicle while he was on vacation. The daughter had found the vehicle missing after parking it in front of her apartment overnight. She said she still has the keys and that no one else was given permission to use it.
Lyndale
Oct. 25, 3:05 p.m., 1st Ave. S. and E. Lake St. Police responded to bus driver being assaulted. Officers were able to apprehend the 19-year-old male suspect after he left the scene of the assault. Police found a small white solid substance wrapped in plastic that they suspected of being crack cocaine after searching him. Suspect also had outstanding warrants from a previous incident.
Between 8 p.m. on Oct. 28 and 2 a.m. on Oct. 29, 1st Ave. S. and E. Lake St. Police found an injured 41-year-old man at the above location. The victim had sustained a cut on his right wrist and also swelling on the left side of his face. Apparently the victim was very intoxicated and could only remember being robbed by three black men.
Oct. 29, 12:01-2:15 a.m., 100 block of W. Lake St. Suspects identified as two black males allegedly removed items from a 48-year-old woman's purse while she was dancing at a local bar. A bartender at the establishment said the suspects left in a light green or grey vehicle.
Lynnhurst
Between 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 and 1:05 a.m. on Oct. 29th, 5300 block of Knox Ave. S. An unknown suspect had entered the home of a 35-year-old female through a ground-floor window. The suspect was able to steal two laptop computers, her checkbook and a tennis bracelet. The woman also said that the suspect stole her keys and took off in her vehicle.
Nov. 2, 7:50 p.m., 4900 block of Morgan Ave. S. An attempted burglary was interrupted when the owner of the residence, a 52-year-old female, returned home.
Stevens Square
Oct. 26, 3:25 p.m., E. 18th St. and Nicollet Ave. An unknown suspect punched a 55-year-old male in the face and took a bottle of gin that the victim had been carrying. The victim did not need medical assistance at the time.
Nov. 3, 10:55 p.m., 1800 block of 4th Ave. S. Three people were arrested and two ticketed when police executed a narcotics search warrant at a residence. The three people who were arrested, two of which were male and the other one female, were charged with narcotics violations and for violating their parole.
Nov. 5, 1:10 a.m., E. 18th St. and Nicollet Ave. A 41-year-old male was arrested for a narcotics violation. Suspect also had warrants out for his arrest from previous incidents and was taken to Hennepin County Jail.
Tangletown
Oct. 25, 3:4-4 p.m., W. 49th St. and Pleasant Ave. A suspect assaulted a 17-year-old male as he left his high school. The victim was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for the injuries he sustained.
West Calhoun
Oct. 28, 2:45-3 p.m., 3000 block of Excelsior Blvd. A 28-year-old woman had her purse stolen while she was eating at a local restaurant. A witness to the theft saw the suspect sit behind the victim and reach behind and grab the purse. Suspect then left the restaurant and possibly got into the passenger side of a vehicle described as gold colored. The victim claimed she might be able to identify the suspect.
Whittier
Between 11:11 p.m. on Oct. 25 and 1:05 a.m. on Oct. 26, 2100 block of 4th Ave. S. A Minneapolis Fire Department vehicle was called after an explosion on 4th Ave. S. No suspect information was available. Report claimed a bomb or incendiary device was used to start the blaze.
Oct. 27, 1:10 p.m., W. 28th St. and Pillsbury Ave. Police arrested a man for a narcotics violation and an outstanding warrant. The 29-year-old male was arrested and taken to Hennepin County Jail.
Oct. 28, 12:20-1:30 p.m., 2600 block of Pillsbury Ave. Police enforced a narcotics search warrant at a residence on Pillsbury Avenue. Two males were arrested and taken to Hennepin County Jail and three females were ticketed and charged with having a disorderly house.
Oct. 29, 4:40-5 a.m., E. 24th St. and Nicollet Ave. Unknown suspects forcefully robbed a 23-year-old male. The victim claimed that the suspects had stolen his wallet and keys and then fled in a vehicle. Victim had sustained minor injuries to his face from the incident.
Oct. 29, 2-3:30 p.m., 2800 block of Nicollet Ave. A 51-year-old female had left her car parked legally on the street. The victim returned to find it missing. She informed police that no one was given permission to use the vehicle but that a spare set of keys was inside.
Oct. 31, 4:35-4:52 p.m., W. 27th St. and Pillsbury Ave. Police stopped a 21-year-old woman walking back and forth at an intersection. A small plastic bag fell out of her pocket after she withdrew her hands from inside of them. When police noticed this, the suspect allegedly exclaimed, “It's empty, I just smoked it.” Police also found a glass tube used to smoke crack cocaine and a container that had prescription drugs inside that did not belong to the suspect.
Oct. 31, 11:50 p.m., E. 22nd St and Nicollet Ave. A 34-year-old woman had her purse stolen by a suspect that she knew.
Nov. 1, noon-1 p.m., 2800 block of Pillsbury Ave. Unknown suspects burglarized the apartment of two people, one a 24-year-old woman and the other a 29-year-old male.
Between 10:45 p.m. on Nov. 5 and 10 a.m. on Nov. 6, 2600 block of Pleasant Ave. A 65-year-old woman had parked her vehicle in front of her home. She found it missing the next morning and still had the keys in her possession.
Nov. 6, 12:12 a.m., 2600 block of Blaisdell Ave. Police witnessed a known prostitute enter a vehicle. The car tried to get away when police attempted to pull it over. Police were finally able to stop the vehicle and found that the driver was a juvenile male that was also in possession of prescription narcotics.
Between 7 p.m. on Nov. 6 and 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 7, 2400 block of Harriet Ave. A 24-year-old female had parked her car in a lot located behind her residence. The victim found the vehicle missing the next morning.
