The Minneapolis crime spiral

Now all you have to do to be a victim in Minneapolis is mow your lawn. Interestingly, the Red Star had a large story, above the fold, in the Metro section titled "Two nightmares on an ordinary summer night; Minneapolis police describe brazen kidnappings", but the story has not yet appeared (as far as we can tell), on the web site. Because of this, there is no link to the story. The story appears in the paper on Friday, 8/26/05.

There is, however, information obtained from Minneapolis Police Captain Rich Stanek that is important, and confirms the crime spike theory that Rambix has been documenting. Rambix reproduces the paragraph as follows (Capt. Stanek refers to two recent and unrelated kidnappings):

The crimes, which Stanek called bold and brazen, are a continuing pattern of violent crime in the city by people who have no fear of the criminal justice system or police officers, authorities say. There have been several incidents in the past month in which officers have had guns pointed and shots fired at them, Stanek said.
